Performing Arts at Fawn Lake

Meet Marcus and Riza Printup

We hope you are as excited as we are about Performing Arts at Fawn Lake’s very first upcoming Jazz Series Concert on February 23rd, so here is a little bit of background on these amazing artists, Marcus and Riza Printup.
Marcus Printup has been a member of world-renowned Jazz at Lincoln Center since 1993 under the direction of Winton Marsalis, and has played trumpet with such greats as Dianna Reeves, Eric Reed, Cyrus Chestnut, Wycliffe Gordon, and Marcus Roberts. He records regularly for several major labels.

Famed harpist Riza Printup spans both Classical and Jazz worlds with her amazing repertoire, and has collaborated in live performance with many of the greats of our era. Riza has also performed with the late great American jazz saxophonist and flautist, Frank Wess (featuring the music of legendary jazz harpist, Dorothy Ashby); virtuoso cellist Yo-Yo Ma and jookin dance master L’il Buck (Saint-Saëns’s classic ‘Le Cygne’ for harp and cello); Lady Gaga (Elton John: I’m Still Standing – A Grammy Salute); and has been featured with Paquito D’Rivera in his presentations of Charlie Parker’s classic, Bird With Strings at Jazz At Lincoln Center. In 2014, Riza joined world renowned soprano Kathleen Battle in Ms. Battle’s presentation of ‘Underground Railroad: A Spiritual Journey‘ at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, PA and at Ms. Battle’s magnificent return to the Metropolitan Opera House (2016).

Riza has recorded with her husband, acclaimed Jazz Trumpeter Marcus Printup Gentle Rain (2020), Desire (2013), A Time For Love  (2011), Ballads All Night  (2010), and Bird of Paradise  (2007); with Grammy nominated pianist and composer Kenny Werner No Beginning, No End; and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra featuring Chick Corea and the music of Mr. Corea.

And if that isn’t enough, the Printups have a deep, shared passion for education. Marcus is involved with JALC’s Essentially Ellington Competition, The New School (Manhattan), The International Trumpet Guild, and Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead at the Kennedy Center.

Together, in 2019, Marcus and Riza established a non-profit, RiMarcable Music For Arts & Education, to enrich and educate young audiences, and they collaborate regularly with The Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, WBGO, Midori & Friends, Homes For The Homeless, The Riverside Fine Arts Association, New Jersey Central Jazz Association, and Jazz House Kids. Riza’s curriculum “Jazz Explorers Unit 1: Eras of Jazz” is now in elementary schools across the US, Canada and Japan.

Individually, their merits speak for themselves, and together they are superstars!  Soon we will have the honor and pleasure of hearing them play expressly for us here in Fawn Lake. That’s right – this absolutely extraordinary Jazz duo will play at The Cove at 7:00PM on Friday, February 23rd. You won’t want to miss this event.
